Mother Thrice Admirable Picture

from 4.00

It is the reprint of a painting by Luigi Crosio (+1915), which he completed by the end of the 19th century. The original title of the image was "Refugium peccatorum" - Refuge of Sinners. One of the professors of the House of Studies sent it from Freiburg in Breisgau to Schoenstatt as a gift to the students. The image of grace was then given the title “Mother Thrice Admirable” – “Mater ter Admirabilis” (abbreviated “MTA”).

This title was taken over from the image of the Madonna of Marian Sodality of Ingoldstadt, which gave the title new vitality.

The Jesuit Father Jacob Rem, director of the Marian Sodality in Ingolstadt, recognized in 1604 in an inner religious experience that Mary preferred to be venerated under the title "mother most admirable". Subsequently during prayer times he asked this title to be repeated three times. From this the title "Mother Thrice Admirable" later came about. Mary is admirable as Mother of God, Mother of the Redeemer and Mother of the Redeemed. Throughout Schoenstatt’s history this title has been expanded.
